Dental Implants

Our focus at East Keilor Dental is protecting your natural teeth and smile with preventive dentistry. However, there are some circumstances where tooth loss can occur. When that happens, our dentists may recommend a dental implant to restore your tooth because it replaces both your tooth and root and is the closest option to a natural tooth.

How Dental Implants in East Keilor Work

A tooth implant consists of three integral parts that work together to create your new tooth.

  • The implant: A dental specialist we trust places the implant into your jawbone during a surgical procedure. We'll give the implant time to integrate with your bone, which takes around three to six months.
  • The abutment: When the implant is fully integrated with your bone and ready to support your new tooth, we'll connect the two with an abutment.
  • The restoration: Our dentists will customise a porcelain crown to complete and complement your smile. You'll be able to eat and chew easily since your new tooth is almost like a natural tooth.

Dental implants can also anchor a bridge or denture, so patients with multiple missing teeth can also benefit from them. Implant-supported dentures securely hold dentures in place so the wearer doesn't experience movement or slippage when talking or eating.

Why It's Important to Replace a Missing Tooth

When you lose a tooth, you also lose a root, which leaves your bone with nothing to support and keep it stimulated. This means it will begin to deteriorate, impacting support for surrounding teeth. Bone loss can also change your facial appearance.

Meanwhile, the gaps left by a missing tooth can become problematic when teeth start to move and shift into the open space. This can result in bite misalignment, leading to broken or fractured teeth or jaw joint pain and instability.

Dental implants solve all of these problems by restoring your root and tooth. Implants are the only tooth replacement option that offers this benefit.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Tooth implants offer several advantages for our patients:

  • Protection for your bone health
  • The look, feel, and appearance of a natural tooth
  • Easy care since you can brush and floss as you would normally
  • Great longevity since tooth implants can potentially last a lifetime with excellent home care and regular dental checkups
  • Bite stabilisation

Our dentists will design your dental implant, implant bridge, or denture to complement your natural smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental implants are excellent for replacing one or multiple teeth because they restore both your root and tooth, which is the closest you can get to a natural tooth.

The reason it's essential to replace a lost tooth root is because your jawbone begins to deteriorate when it doesn't have a root to support. Bone loss can result in more tooth loss and even cause changes to your facial structure.

Replacing a lost tooth protects your surrounding teeth from shifting into the open spaces, which can cause bite misalignment and jaw joint problems and discomfort.

Since a dental implant restores both your root and tooth, it solves all these problems and leaves you with a natural-looking and high-functioning tooth.

How Do Dental Implants in East Keilor Work?

Dental implants work in phases. A trusted oral surgeon strategically places the implant into your bone during the first phase. Then we give the implant time to heal and integrate with the bone during an osseointegration process that takes about three to six months.

Once your implant is fully healed and integrated with your bone, our dentists can restore it with a custom porcelain crown. We can also use multiple dental implants to support a bridge or denture for patients missing multiple teeth.
