Root Canal Treatment

You might've heard horror stories in the past about root canals, but your East Keilor dentist feels it's time to dispel those myths and put them to rest.

When patients hear the term "root canal treatment," they often associate it with severe pain that is caused by an infection of the tooth nerve. It is actually the root canal treatment that alleviates this pain by eliminating a tooth infection while preserving your natural tooth structure, proving it to be a reliable restorative treatment.

The Signs and Symptoms of a Tooth Infection

If you're noticing any of these symptoms, it's best to contact your dentist in East Keilor for an exam:

  • Severe or constant pain or a toothache that doesn't go away and impacts your daily activities
  • Facial pain or swelling
  • A white bump, pimple, or blister around the painful tooth
  • Tooth darkening or discolouration
  • Tenderness or discomfort when biting or chewing
  • Tooth sensitivity to temperature

Unfortunately, the discomfort will persist if you have an infected or abscessed tooth. We make time in our daily schedule at East Keilor Dental to help patients experiencing discomfort or a dental emergency. So please get in touch with our team if you're in pain.

Does Root Canal Treatment in East Keilor Hurt?

Thanks to modern dentistry, root canal therapy is more efficient and comfortable than ever before. And remember, it is your infected tooth causing discomfort; a root canal relieves that pain.

With rotary endodontic hand tools, root canal treatment is quicker, more efficient, and more comfortable for our patients. Rotary instruments are flexible because they're made of nickel-titanium, so it's easier and more comfortable for our dentists to reach the inner canals of your tooth and remove the infected tissues. The tools are also electric, which makes the procedure more efficient.

How You Can Avoid Tooth Infections and Root Canal Treatment

With a strong focus on preventive dentistry at East Keilor Dental, we help many patients avoid painful situations like a tooth infection that needs root canal treatment.

For example, if our dentists identify tooth decay early on, you typically can successfully treat it with a simple, less invasive dental filling.

On the other hand, if tooth decay goes unnoticed and untreated, it worsens and moves further into the tooth until it reaches the nerve and causes an infection. At that point, you may start feeling discomfort or a toothache, which may require a more complex treatment procedure like root canal treatment.

You'll avoid many dental pitfalls and discomforts when you visit your dentist every few months for preventive teeth cleans and checkups.

Are You Experiencing Dental Pain or a Toothache?

Meet Our Clinicians:

Dr Jonathan Goldberg

Although he graduated with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2005, Jonathan has been involved in dentistry his entire life (his father and aunt being dentists). He also worked as a dental assistant for five years (at this practice) while he was studying to become a dentist.

Jonathan believes that continuing education is vital to providing the highest quality of dentistry for his patients and, as such, not only attends a multitude of national and international conferences and works as a clinical demonstrator at the University of Melbourne dental school. His particular interests are preventative ...

Dr Dominic Ho

Dr Dominic Ho graduated from Melbourne University in 1989 and has been practising in Keilor East since 1990.

On graduation, he joined the Australian Dental Association and recently received his certificate for 25 years with the association (very much to his surprise). He also served with the Australian Army Reserves for 18 years before joining the inactive reserves in 2008. Since 2003, Dominic has been and continues to be a clinical demonstrator and examiner at the University of Melbourne Dental School.

The best part about being a dentist for Dominic is being able to help his patients resolve their ...

Dr Margaret Preston

Dr Preston completed her dental degree at Melbourne University in 1968, being awarded an Honours Degree and the first female to be the dux of the course. She has been a dentist for 55 years and has been with East Keilor Dental for 38 of those years.

Dr Preston was always interested in the medical sciences, but dentistry seemed more family-friendly. She loves making a difference in her patients' lives in many ways and influencing them to maintain their oral health for a lifetime.

Continuing education has always been a strong focus of her professional life, and she ...

Rotary Endodontics

Rotary endodontic tools allow us to make root canal treatment more comfortable and efficient than ever before. The hand tools are made of nickel-titanium, which is more comfortable when we're accessing the inner canals of your tooth since it is a flexible material.

The tools are also electric, which helps us be more efficient, and means less time in the dental chair for our patients.
